Taye Diggs: This black history month let’s promote cultural literacy for our nation’s youngest learners
by Taye Diggs, Actor, Author, Head Start Child Literacy Ambassador
As our nation celebrates Black History Month, I am especially excited to announce an upcoming activity with the National Head Start Association (NHSA) to promote family literacy and self-love and pride within our earliest learners!
As Head Start’s Child Literacy Ambassador, this March we will launch our National Reading Month initiative utilizing my two children’s books, Chocolate Me! and Mixed Me! to engage educators and parents in the critical task of sowing seeds of understanding, acceptance and love among all children!
I salute each member of the Head Start community for your passion and dedication to providing the Head Start advantage to every single vulnerable child in our nation. Because of your work, children struggling under the pressures of poverty have the opportunity to succeed in Kindergarten and beyond. The continuous commitment Head Start programs nationwide make to every child who walks through their doors makes me especially proud to partner with you; be on the lookout for information on how you can participate in the coming weeks!
As we celebrate Black History Month this February and look forward to National Reading Month, I hope my books will continue to inspire children across the country to love themselves while building strong and unified communities, with your help!
